Rent ATM
Technology has advanced dramatically since the advent of the ATM and this channel has to keep up with the rest of the world. The latest generation of ATMs offer great opportunities to interact with customers and build a strong visual brand image at the same time.
While mobile and online banking usage is significantly increasing, the ATM is still of great importance for consumers. ATMs are cropping up in ever more diverse locations – ATMs are found in shops, hotels, gas stations, airports and ‘on the go businesses,’ among many other places, offering a wide range of transactions. Given the continued use of ATMs, it is even more important that the consumer experience at the ATM is intuitive and fulfilling.

The right ATM technology enables banks to transform their ATM estate and ensure they can consistently satisfy customer expectations today and in the future. Being able to easily upgrade devices to take into account emerging trends and shifts in consumer expectations, can also help boost branch efficiency and increase revenue over time as consumer behaviour evolves.

In a world where many ATMs remain utilitarian in their design, combining a user-friendly personalized interface and the newest, most powerful and efficient ATM technology allows a brand's personality to really break through and stand out from the crowd.

College is an exciting time. For many college freshmen it’s the first step to “freedom.” However, with that freedom often comes a new responsibility, managing money on your own for the first time. Doing so without the watchful eye of mom and dad can be quite stressful as well. There are ways to avoid becoming the “broke college student” stereotype. Being mindful of your finances and creating a budget is step number one.

A college student’s budget doesn’t have to be overly complicated. A simple budget outlining how much money you receive and what your expected expenses are each month is a good way to start. Adding an allowance for extra activities, such as special events, games and concerts, is another aspect to include in your budget. By setting an allowance, you are less likely to overspend. This also means you will still have money available for necessary purchases, such as textbooks and meal plan costs.

Opening a checking account is another great tool for college students to better manage their money. Not only does a checking account provide a safe and secure place to keep money, it also can make sticking with a budget easier.

There are other steps college students can take to cut costs. We recommend the following tips to make the most of your college experience without breaking the bank:

1. Look for student discounts. Many businesses and restaurants offer student discounts however this is not always advertised. Make sure to keep your college I.D. with you at all times and ask if there are student discounts available. This can help you save tremendously.

2. Avoid spending too much on textbooks. Of course, textbooks are a necessary item for most classes, however the cost for such items can vary greatly. Most new versions of textbooks in campus bookstores will carry a high price tag. However, many bookstores offer cheaper, used versions of the same textbooks for purchase at a much lower cost. In addition, retailers such as Amazon.ca usually offer textbooks at a significantly reduced price. At the end of the semester, most bookstores will allow you to sell back your textbooks as well.

3. Limit off campus dining . If you are already paying for a college meal plan, make sure you are actually using it. While it may be tempting to frequent restaurants with friends or order pizza with roommates, it can also be a contributing factor to quickly running out of spending money.

4. Use credit wisely . College might be a time when you get your first credit card. However, it’s important to remember that a credit card doesn’t equate to “free money.” A credit card can be a great way to build your credit if you use it responsibly. Make sure to not spend more than you have with a credit card. Only use the card when you know you have enough money to pay the balance. Before choosing a credit card be sure to research the card’s annual percentage rate as well as any annual fees and penalty fees that might be associated with it.

5. Consider working a part-time job . If you have time to balance a part-time job while you are in school, it can be a good way to earn extra money. Many colleges offer work study programs on campus to qualifying students.

6. SAVE. Even though college budgets are usually pretty tight, try to always keep money aside in savings. Saving money while in college can help you pay off your debt faster when you graduate. It’s never too early to think about your future, especially when it comes to your finances.

College is a time of learning, growth, and excitement. Hopefully these tips will help you on your successful college journey. Best wishes for what is sure to be a wonderful school year.

Nobody wants to touch cash these days; almost every store that is open has a sign "credit or debit only."

"Older people, the poor, those without bank access and those who are simply offline will be left out." That's why the Bank of Canada still thinks cash has a future, according to John Lorinc in Macleans:

The Bank of Canada’s official view is that notes and coins are inexpensive (no transaction fees), easy to use, provide privacy and security, and are always viable in emergencies (e.g., a massive blackout). It also notes that while 99 percent of Canadians, including the very poor, have bank accounts, many are “under-banked” (bank fees are so high they tend not to use plastic).

According to the Bank of England and the World Health Organization, "The risk is no greater than on any other items," but their smallest note is £5 and they are plastic. The Bank of Canada wants retailers to keep taking it, saying "refusing cash could put an undue burden on people who depend on cash as a means of payment.” The Bank of China is disinfecting money and storing it for 14 days before recirculating it. The Central Bank in South Korea burned it.

It's easier to track what you have when it is in your pocket or mattress.   As Timothy Rooks wrote in DW: "In times of crisis, people like things they can trust. Things they can hold." There is something to that.

When it comes to renting an ATM in Ontario to keep providing cash to help your customers get the money they need in this time of crisis, call the pros at Debit Express first. We have many affordable options and can help with the setup!

ATMs can be intimidating for first-timers, but once you get the hang of them, they're incredibly quick and convenient. With most banks being closed or having limited hours due to COVID-19 it’s no longer necessary to drive across town to your bank branch —you can handle your business just about anywhere and anytime.

Here's what you need to know to use an ATM safely and effectively.

Practice ATM Safety

The first thing to remember when using an ATM is to be safe. That machine has direct access to your bank account, and you might have a lot of cash on hand immediately before or after you use the ATM (depending on whether you're making a deposit or withdrawal). For those reasons, thieves target ATMs, as well as the people using them. Always be aware of your surroundings, and don't use an ATM if anything looks suspicious.

When in doubt, just walk away and find a different, safer ATM. These days there are ATMS in nearly every storefront or business, there no need to put yourself in harm's way when there are many options available.

The Card Reader

Once you've determined that an ATM is safe to use, insert your card into the card reader. There should be an image of a card showing you exactly how the card needs to be inserted. Look for the black magnetic stripe for guidance, or possibly an image showing how your name and card number should be lined up.

In some cases, you'll insert the card completely into the ATM, and the machine will hold onto it until your transaction is complete. Other machines allow you to just "dip" your card quickly so that you can get it back in your wallet as soon as possible. If the machine holds onto your card, make sure to get the card back before leaving the machine.

Enter Your Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Next, you'll have to enter a personal PIN to prove you are an authorized card user. As you learn how to use an ATM, develop the habit of hiding the keypad as you type in your PIN (use your free hand to cover your typing). Somebody might be watching you, and some thieves even install hidden cameras on ATMs to capture PINs.

Choose a Transaction

You can use an ATM to do several different things, so you'll have to tell the machine what you want to do. Getting cash is easiest, but you can eventually learn how to use an ATM for other transactions. Withdrawals are the most common way to use an ATM—you simply get cash out of your account. For a withdrawal, you'll just indicate how much you want to take out (usually in increments of $20, but some ATMs allow you to take out smaller bills).

What Are The Fees?

If you're using an ATM that is not affiliated with your bank, you may have to pay a fee. ATMs display these fees before the transaction is complete, allowing you to back out if you don't want to pay the fee.

Don’t Linger

Once you've done what you need to do, close out your session with the ATM. Make sure that the machine is not waiting for you to perform another transaction. If you walk away before your session is closed, somebody could theoretically walk up behind you and withdraw cash from your account. Don't worry about holding up the line—stand there until you're sure that it's safe to leave.

That said, it's not a good idea to linger needlessly at the ATM. Get your cash in your wallet quickly (so others can't see how much you have). If the ATM kept your card during the transaction, you'll want to grab it as soon as the machine spits it out. If you're too slow, the machine could suck the card back in. This is a security measure to prevent your card from being stolen, but if it happens to you, it'll be tough to get the card back. You may have to get a new one.

Foot traffic is one of the most important measures when it comes to stores. More traffic means more opportunities for sales and customer engagement, which in turn leads to higher revenue!

‘Spick n’ span’

A spruced-up store can really do wonders for you curb appeal! Nobody really wants to walk into a store that has dirty windows or peeling paint, that’s why it’s important to stay on top of the maintenance tasks! Sweeping your storefront and cleaning your windows should be done daily, but a good paint job can last years!

Imagine being in a shop and next to the fresh fruit and veg aisle is a mass of dust and fluff… it would put you off immediately wouldn’t it? Don’t let customers form bad opinions about your store because of some grubbiness. Keep it clean and you’ll be increasing footfall in your store in no time!

First impressions count!

Shop windows are becoming increasingly valuable marketing assets! It’s your own space and chance to show the public exactly what your store is offering. Which means it needs to catch their eye. Customers are looking for experience, not just a transaction. Check the view from the pavement and ask yourself…

·        Does it portray what you have to offer?

·        Is it clean and eye-catching?

·        If you were walking past would it make you curious enough to walk through the door?

·        Is it welcoming/inviting?

Not everyone has the resources but even something simple like a little welcome mat or a sign outside saying welcome can make your store seem more approachable, hopefully increasing foot traffic in your store.

Customer experience

There’s nothing worse than waltzing into a store and dealing with rude, uncaring staff. We understand that sometimes in retail you have to work a lot of hours and it might not be the best part of your day. So why not offer your customers an incentive? For example, some companies get their employees to hand out review cards, so that if the customer feels they have received good service they can write a nice message about that employee. Then at the end of the week the employee that got the most positive reviews will get a prize, such as an extra day off or cash bonus. It’s important that your employees are representing your brand with the way they serve customers. Remember, service with a smile!

  Trends and events

If you’re adapting your store to fit in with different events, you are doing it right! Yearly and seasonal events make large amounts of money every year, especially within the retail markets. So get on board with St. Paddy’s Day merch, a few Christmas decorations and Easter products because the public love it!

An election, the birth of a royal baby or perhaps a sporting event can influence customer buying behaviour, so think outside the box! After each event period you could complete a retail analysis, analysing when your store had the largest increase of foot traffic to establish trends and patterns in customer purchasing. This way you will be able to plan in advance to make sure your customers are getting the most out of your shop, products and staff.

Offer something extra...

An ATM drives footfall to your store – it’s as simple as that. Not only will customers stop in to get cash, people like to impulse buy and just can’t resist that chocolate bar… to talk to us about having an ATM in your business, please get in touch! When it comes to renting an ATM in Ontario to help your customers get the money they need in this time of crisis, call the pros at Debit Express first. We have many affordable options and can help with the setup!
